Abstract
AVO analysis is now established as an effective hydrocarbon detection tool in many exploration provinces. In most areas in which it is widely used, the impedance of the reservoir rocks is less than or equal to the impedance of the surrounding rocks. The AVO response of low‐impedance reservoirs is an increase in amplitude with offset. Methodologies for detecting and analyzing these types of AVO anomalies have been developed, and have resulted in greatly increased drilling success ratios for some formations, such as the Yegua Formation of onshore Texas.
