Abstract

During last seven years we made fourteen times visit to Kinkasan Island, in Miyagi Prefecture and observed birds on and around the Island. The Island locates the top of Ojika peninsula, Miyagi Prefecture, eastern parts of Japan. The circumsference of this Island is about 26km and the highest spot is 444.88m above sea level.We observed 13 orders comprising 104 species of birds, especially interesting one were Cepphus columba (new record from Honshu), Fratercula corniculata, Pterodroma leucootera, Haliaeetus pelagicus, Nucitraga caryocatactes and Phalacrocorax capillatus (breeding).From the end of March to beginning of April we observed a great number (several thousand to ten thousand) of Larus argentatus and Larus schistisagus on number (several thousand to ten thousand) of Larus argentatus and Laru schistisagus on the open sea near this Island and in the same season we also observed migrating Podiceps griseigena in this area.
