Abstract

Four strains of the infectious hepatitis agent (IHA) were employed and identified as 9539, 1297, 9683, and 9805. Each was isolated from affected chickens in widely separated flocks (over 50 miles apart). The isolation of IHA 9539 and the technique used have previously been described.5 Strains 1297 and 9683 were isolated in a similar manner from the livers of affected birds. However, 9805 was recovered from the pericardium and myocardium of 10-week-old pullets.
