Abstract

This paper provides data on the discovery, distribution, and clinical, pathoanatomical, and patho-histological picture of avian hepatitis E virus. Basically, massive mortality occurs among clinically healthy birds. The liver is significantly (4–6 times) enlarged in volume and is of doughy texture with consolidation foci and the spleen is enlarged 4–5 times with signs of sepsis. The main pathohistological changes are lipodystrophy and amyloidosis.
