Abstract

A total of 64 species of birds representing 34 families were recorded from six agro-ecosystems. Field survey was conducted from August, 2017 to July, 2018. A population density and diversity index in terms of diversity, evenness and equitability was highest in Melaghat and lowest in Uchimahuwat. In terms of feeding guild the highly dominant feeding guild was insectivorous. During the study period, it was observed that insectivorous and carnivorous bird species put an important ecological impact on agro-ecosystems as a biological pest control agents of harmful pests i.e. insect and rodents. The agro-ecosystems adjoining with river and forest system enjoy higher diversity of birds and agro-ecosystems located in urbanized area and nearer to the city have moderate and low bird diversity.
