Abstract

A radio-frequency (rf) field gradient, applied for an arbitrary period, has the ability to induce coherence transfers. This property stems from the 0.5 value for the averages of sin 2θ and cos 2θ, where θ stands for a nutation angle. Two experimental illustrations of these features are given: a COSY experiment where the second π/2 pulse is replaced by one rf gradient pulse and an experiment, involving two rf gradient pulses, aimed at the determination of auto-diffusion coefficients.
