Abstract

An experimental technique for measuring the average interdislocation internal stress in crystals is described and measurements for LiF single crystals undergoing high temperature sigmoidal creep are reported. Quantitative predictions of the magnitude of the average internal stress are made using Haasen's treatment of sigmoidal creep and are compared with the measured internal stresses. The comparison shows the theory and experiment to be in good agreement.
