Abstract
Avascular necrosis of the femoral head affects many patients annually. It is the result of ischemic changes around the bone that cause osteocyte death and subsequent collapse of the head of femur. Although certain conditions predispose to its development, avascular necrosis of the femoral head following an intertrochanteric fracture is infrequent.
