Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the muscle changes and the strength of horses, Quarter Horse, athletes submitted to sprint (300 meters) with the use of serum glucose reviews, lactate, creatine kinase and aspartate aminotransferase. For the evaluation, 21 horses were used in the Quarter Horse breed, aged 2 and 4 years old, weighing approximately 500 kg, submitted to race proved short distance (300 meters). Serum aspartate aminotransferase values were measured (AST), creatine kinase (CK), lactate and glucose 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after exercise. When comparing the results using T-Student (p < 0.05), it was observed that there is a statistically significant difference when comparing the groups, it is possible to notice wear and muscle regeneration, as well as adaptation to exercise. Serum tests have demonstrated good sensitivity to monitor the physical condition of the animals before and after undergoing the short run test.

Highlights

Summary
