Abstract

This paper proposes a hierarchical distributed processing system for automotive applications. The system consists of a number of intelligent subsystems, a central controller, a shared memory module, and a global bus. Each subsystem consists of a number of processors, smart sensors, smart actuators, and a local bus. If the central controller detects a fault in any processor in a subsystem, it will assign its tasks to another processor within the same subsystem. The assigned processor continues its original assignments on a time-sharing basis. Availability of the processing nodes in the proposed system is modelled and evaluated using a Markov model.
