Abstract

A model involving main standby redundancy and secondary subsystems having pre-emptive repeat priorities is considered. If the secondary subsystem fails when the main subsystem is operating with one functioning unit and one failed unit, then the secondary subsystem starts to be repaired (pre-emptive priority). If both main and secondary subsystems are inoperable, then the main subsystem has high priority for repair. In this model, we obtained the system availability, the mean inter-occurrence shut-off time and steady-state probability that the system is under shut-off by the technique of the Markov renewal process. We also obtained the system reliability by using the Markov chain.
