Abstract

A series of pyrazine and pyrimidine carboxylic acids has been tested in order to verify the role of the pyridine ring and of its substituents on auxinic activity. This activity has been examined using three tests: pea stem elongation, flax root inhibition and ethylene production in etiolated pea stem. All compounds tested were practically inactive, except the 3-amino-6-chloro-pyrazine carboxylic acid which showed anti-auxin behaviour.
