Abstract

Road maintenance requires regular and careful inspection. Current solutions to large-scale road inspection typically rely on the mass cost of labor and time. This study introduces an auxiliary system based on geotagged videos and map services to help road inspectors perform their tasks. With the mobile application, street videos and GPS data are recorded automatically when vehicles are traveling. The GPS data are transmitted to the system via the mobile network for generating the traversed trajectories on the interactive map. When the inspectors examine the road condition of road segments, the videos are uploaded to the system for producing the street videos of the corresponding road segments. The inspectors watch the videos, realize the current situation, and make appropriate arrangements. The system simplifies the entire process of road inspection. The system has been implemented and tested successfully
