Abstract

The power transfer and efficiency in Wireless power transfer (WPT) system depends on coupling coefficient between coupled coils. Coil structure plays an important role in transferring power through magnetic coupling. This paper proposed a new coil structure for WPT systems. The 3D model of proposed coil structure has been developed in Ansys Maxwell and its performance in terms of coupling coefficient(k), Mutual inductance(M) and misalignment tolerance has been compared to existing coil structures (circular, square, double DD). The coupling coefficient and misalignment tolerance of proposed coil structure has been found to be higher than others with same size and same number of turns. Output power transfer and efficiency hasalso been plotted for different coil separation in PSIM simulations.
