Abstract
1. 1. Nicotinic acid, oxynicotine, nicotyrine, cotinine, and myosmine have been isolated and identified from the oxidation products of nicotine by aeration at 30 °. 2. 2. The presence of methylamine and ammonia in the same oxidation products has been established paper chromatographically. 3. 3. The present results indicate that non-enzymic reactions may account, to some extent, for the transformation of nicotine during aging and fermentation of tobacco leaves together with enzymic ones.
