Abstract
The aerobic oxidation of binary mixtures of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) in aqueous dispersions was carried out at 37°C initiated by a lipid-soluble azo initiator. The relative rates of the oxidation of PC and PE was found to depend on the number of bisallylic hydrogens in the phospholipids irrespective of the nitrogen moiety used. The increase in the mole ratios of PE to PC resulted in a decrease in the oxidizabilities of the lipids in aqueous dispersions, probably due to an increase in the microviscosity.
