Abstract

In this paper, we describe a method to help legal practitioners in citing the relevant case laws and statute laws for the specified legal issue. In this method, we consider the cited case and statute law as single tokens where we try to find the relevant tokens based on the words around these tokens. We observed that context-based representations outperformed lexical-based representations and distributional representations. Also, we observed that the method works better for statute law retrieval compared to case law retrieval.
