Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses about auto-programming for numerically controlled machine tools. Much interest has been shown of late in numerically-controlled machine tools. The pairs of numbers to be given to the machine are punched on paper tape, and a tape reader is fitted to it. The first thing to be considered is the form in which a specification for a cut is presented by the person who wants it to be made. The number tape consists of a list of the relevant coordinates, together with a symbol that causes the appropriate input subroutine to be used. The number tape contains approximate information about the positions and directions of the ends of curves, and the purpose of this is to eliminate ambiguities.
