Abstract

This editorial discusses contributions to the First Workshop - Intelligent Computing in the Petroleum Industry - which were selected for a special issue relating to applications based on recent artificial intelligence (AI) models and techniques for solving problems in the petroleum industry. Applications reviewed in this volume relate to implemented AI methods dealing with classical and recent problems. The use of hybrid systems employing several AI techniques is examined along with oil and gas exploration, the process industry, evacuation in risk zone, knowledge management within the oil company, soft computing and pervasive computing, and future trends involving agent-based computing and soft computing.
