Abstract

After introduction of the first radar based autonomous cruise control (ACC) system in the Mercedes S-class in 1999, ACC is meanwhile available from many OEMs in high and mid class models. Beside ACC for improved driver comfort, increasingly safety applications are addressed using long range radar (LRR) technology at 77 GHz, 24 GHz ultra-wide band (UWB) short range radar (SRR) systems or a combination of both. First cars of the new Mercedes S-class equipped with LRR and SRR for new safety and comfort functions have just entered the market.
