Abstract

The requirements for the composition and quality of automotive gasolines by 2010 for reducing the toxicity of exhaust gases are examined. Data on the component composition and environmental indexes of all brands of gasoline manufactured in 2002–2003 and tested with a set of qualification evaluation methods are generalized. The possibility of meeting the demand of Russian motor vehicles for Euro–2 and Euro–3 gasolines in 2005 is demonstrated. Expansion of manufacture of these gasolines is limited by the total aromatic hydrocarbon content, including benzene. The use of iron– and manganese–containing antiknock compounds at a maximum metal concentration of 18 mg/dm3 could be a temporary measure.
