Abstract
This study examines the impact of training on the information technol ogy used in public libraries in England and Canada. Semi structured interviews were held with staff at dif ferent levels in the selected libraries during late 1990 and early 1991 and the data reveals the route of automa tion taken in Canada and England and the IT (information technology) applications in use. Further applica tions these sample libraries plan or want to have in the future are also discussed. From the information gath ered, the training implications are charted, assessed and discussed.
