Abstract

The efficiency of water conveyance system can be enhanced through canal automation. Water use and water transfer can be conveniently managed through automation process. This paper proposes the demand driven, downstream and local automatic system. The system uses ultrasonic sensors to sense the available water quantum and computes the amount of gate opening proportionate to the user's demand. The signal inputs are received by NI MyRIO and the requisite computations of Water discharge (Q), Gate opening (Go), Load on operator (L), Motor torque (M) are implemented by NI Lab VIEW and accordingly actuator mechanism is operated that controls the opening and closing of Canal gate. The LabVIEW based module automates the gate actuator mechanism, provides better accuracy and reduces the cost.
