Abstract
Railway yards automation using mini and microcomputers is discussed. First, the objectives and functions of a dedica ted, hierarchycal computer control system are summarized. Then the paper focuses on the tracks switching system, for which software architecture and programming techniques are given. Hardware requirements for this system are also briefly examined.
