Abstract

A system for off-line computer-generated interpretative reports of lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes has been developed in the laboratory of a community hospital. The program provides a rapid and comprehensive differential diagnosis based on quantitative scanning. When used in conjunction with the patient's clinical history, physical findings and other laboratory determinations, the system provides helpful and sometimes pivotal information. It includes references and has proven useful for clinical practice. The design of the program, its applications and acceptability to medical staff are discussed.
