Abstract

Chapter 3 describes the development and the systematization of automation concepts for analytical measurements. The classification of conventional industrial automation systems is extended for life science processes and adapted to the special requirements and tasks. Based on industrial robotic systems three concepts of robotic automation systems in life sciences have been developed: central system integrator, flexible robot, and integrated robotics. Explanations regarding the degree of automation and statistical evaluations complete this chapter.
