Abstract

The features and problems of creating multi-scale maps are considered, common examples of which are cartographic web services and GIS projects, where the content and display of objects varies depending on the scale. The main disadvantage of multi-scale maps is the inconsistent and incorrect selection of objects, which is especially evident on maps of medium and small scales. To ensure the correct display of general geographic elements at different scale levels, the automated selection technology is proposed, based on the calculation of quantitative indicators, the formation of selection tables and the accounting of interrelated objects in the interactive mode. To implement the proposed selection methods in the MapInfo GIS, software modules have been developed. The proposed technology will allow you to create a general geographic basis for a multi-scale map at any required scale. At the same time, a reasonable and consistent selection of objects is provided.
