Abstract

In his article on the "Automation of the technological processes in viscose rayon production" (Fibre Chemistry, No. i, 1979) A. S. Belyakov attempted to substantiate the structure of a process control system for viscose rayon production which is optimal in his view • for the foreseeable future. The author of that article proposes the use of series-produced devices on the level of local automation systems, instrumentation of the analytical control, automation of the calculations, and the use of a universal computer for the analysis of a "time-dependent optimal set of technological instructions and aids in the form of nomograms, tables, or graphs." It is the vagueness of the last phrase which expresses the incompleteness and inadequacy of systems of this type D which were confirmed, for example, in the experimental development and operation of such systems at the Balakov and Svetlogorsk establishments in 1970-1974 [i, 2]. It is this fact which determined the direction of the technical development of means of control on the basis of computer techniques in the Soviet Union, i.e., towards the creation of control computer systems (CCS) operating with real time and intended for the comprehensive automation of the control processes including the collection, processing, and presentation of instantaneous technological information [3, 4].
