Abstract
Conventional optical surface inspection systems for pickled steels have a problem in reliable inspection due to their varied surface nature. In order to solve this problem, a new line scan CCD-based inspection system using new thresholding and classifying techniques has been installed and has been fully operational first in the 6 Pickling Line (#6PL) since July 1998 and second in the 1 Pickling Line (#IPL) since April 1999 in Chiba Works, Kawasaki Steel Corporation. These systems have brought various benefits such as improvement of quality assurance of the pickled steels.
