Abstract

An approach to full automation of the remeshing procedure in the finite element simulation of a non-steady metal forming process is presented. The approach is based on a new automatic mesh generation scheme, in which a two-dimensional mesh is generated for an arbitrary domain with the aid of a prespecified mesh referred to as the guide grid. Evaluation of the effect of remeshing on the solution accuracy is made. Backward extrusion with a sharp-cornered punch is simulated, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The approach is further applied to simulating a rib-web forging process.
