Abstract

Introduction: Pulse checks by manual palpation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are challenging, time-consuming, and interrupt chest compressions. To support pulse checks during CPR, we developed an algorithm that can detect a spontaneous pulse in photoplethysmography (PPG) signals during manual compressions and in compression-pauses. We retrospectively evaluated the algorithm on manual-CPR data from five pigs.
