Abstract
Nesting in shipbuilding is work in which as many as possible, parts of various sizes are arranged in steel plate. An automatic nesting system has been developed using the Genetic Algorithm (GA), and a new developed from heuristic rules. The is called geometrical simplification of parts, pairing algorithm and grouping algorithm. This paper shows that the combination of GA with the new is effective to the processing speed of the system and the scrap ratio of nesting.
