Abstract

Automatic milking installations (AMI) are now allowed under the Grade A Pasteurized MilkOrdinance (PMO). There was a successful effort in 2003 to write appropriate changes for the PMO.These changes will allow for the widespread use of AMI on farms in the US. Proper understanding ofthese regulations is important to assure compliance and high quality milk production. The paperdiscusses the changes to the PMO and the challenges ahead to meet the requirements.
