Abstract

As compared with existing level indicators (ultrasonic, radioactive, contact, and others) whose application under the conditions described above do not produce satisfactory results, the above level indicator provides continuous measurement of the level of corrosive media and melts with sufficient precision for practical purposes by a direct measurement; it is relatively simple in its principle of operation and design. The utilization of an expendable measuring electrode (probe) with automatic compensation for its varying length (which are the distinctive features of the above level indicator) make it possible to penetrate into the corrosive fused media (through the surface charge, etc) and measure separately the levels of its components. The design of the level indicator is particularly simple for ore melting electric furnaces, in which the displacement mechanism and the measuring electrode are made similar to the corresponding components of the main electrodes.
