Abstract

Three automatic procedures using linear prediction for determining the glottal velocity pulses by inverse filtering are discussed and examples are given. These procedures accurately separate the vocal tract poles from the glottal velocity pulses. The velocity pulse appears to be a better signal to use for further analysis than the more common error signal because of its greater simplicity and more direct interpretation. The three methods give essentially identical results and thus add credibility to the procedure.
