Abstract
The theoretical performance of an optical instrument can be greatly reduced in practice by the effect of manufacturing errors on the quality of its optical system. This design note describes the development and testing of software that can be used to desensitize optical systems during the design process, by incorporating suitable code into a damped least-squares optimization program.
