Abstract

A trailed sugar beet harvester was modified to allow independent depth and steering control of the lifting wheels by means of a feeler actuated hydraulic servo system. Losses both below and above the ground attributable to the action of the shares were acceptable at speeds up to 6 mile/h and compared favourably with those of hand steered harvesters. An attempt was made to determine the power requirement of the various components of the harvester.
