Automated Waste Monitoring and Alert System Using IoT

Abstract

The uncollected waste materials when the waste bin is full are a common problem nowadays. To build a healthy and hygienic environment, efficient waste disposal and management system is a necessity. Through this paper, we introduce an automated waste monitoring and alert system using the emerging technology called the Internet of Things (IoT). The system is electronically engineered using various sensors like an ultrasonic sensor which is connected to Raspberry Pi to monitor the level of waste inside the bin and the tracked information, which is the level of waste, is sent to the assigned phone number using GSM module. In addition to this, the GPS which is connected inside the bin finds the location of the bin, and using the Google Map APIs, the shortest distance is also provided. Hence, the person can come and collect the waste more systematically through the shortest path.
