Abstract

During winter airports operations, the need for specialized de/anti-icing fluids for aircraft is paramount. To determine the effectiveness of these fluids when subjected to snowy conditions, endurance time tests are conducted in natural conditions. The actual method to measure the snow precipitation rate during those tests are time-consuming and prone to errors. To address this issue, a new prototype for an Automated System for Intensity Measurement has been developed. This system allows for precise measurement during the snow endurance test without any human intervention, reducing the risk of errors. A successful proof of concept in real natural conditions has validated to proper functioning of the prototype and results' consistency with traditional methods.
