Abstract

A novel Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) compatible tissue harvester has been developed and designed to minimize image artifacts and distortions. The new harvester was imaged and the artifact size was compared to the image artifacts caused by commercially available biopsy devices. Image void size of the new device was found to equal its mechanical dimensions, while the conventional designs created image void up to 16 times their dimensions. We also demonstrated that full size tissue samples could be extracted at a vacuum gauge pressure ≥15 in. Hg (50.35 kPa) for all tested tissue samples using the new, fully MRI compatible tissue harvester design.
