Abstract

An automated instrument for preparative scale separations is described. The instrumental system, which does not include the general use of temperature programmed operation allows for the application of multidimensional techniques of carrier gas flow switching such as heart cutting, backflushing etc. in order to optimize the resolution within selected cuts taken from a preseparation, to enrich trace components or to shorten separation times at still sufficient sample capacity of the entire system. Typical applications of the instrument are discussed.
