Abstract

Regular quality assurance measurements recommended by the AAPM TG-40 are an important component of a radiation oncology department’s overall quality assurance program. The increased availability of dual photon beam multi-modality LINACs creates a time consuming and exacting task for the medical physicist who performs these measurements. We have developed an innovative system for computerized Image Based Quality Assurance (IBQA) composed of a software program and a corresponding imaging phantom. The IBQA system automatically measures regular QA parameters and monitor any changes in those values as part of standard QA regimen. The intimate relationship between the software and a unique phantom provides nearly full automation. From a single image and a total of 3 mouse clicks in the software, the TG-40 QA parameters are quickly and automatically calculated. The IBQA system includes many other features that aid in the process and evaluation of QA parameters.
