Abstract

The world today is more connected virtually than ever before because of the internet. But the deep roots of the internet also calls for the need of having foolproof cybersecurity methods. In this intricate and dynamic world, cyber-attack can merely be terminated by using authentication techniques or security systems like traditional or biometric forms of security. Biometric techniques are special techniques that can work for the automation of various computational tasks. With the advancement in technologies and increase in penetration on the internet in our lives has made traditional security systems more vulnerable than ever before. Innovative approaches like biometric security are becoming more popular than traditional security solutions as threats become more endemic. The way the security industry deals with cybersecurity threats is evolving. An automated biometric system is a technological system that works on biological traits for identification of a user or other individual. As of today, the most secure way of intuiting someone’s identity involves the use of biometrics such as fingerprints, speech, facial recognition, retinal or iris scans, etc. The emergence of biometric systems has not only reduced the time but also the manpower and has increased the efficiency by a hundred times. The need of the biometric security system is only going to increase in the present and near future with the advancement of technologies. In this paper, we have discussed different types of biometric recognition systems. We have also proposed a survey that aims at the facilitation of Biometric Techniques as compared to the traditional pen and paper techniques. This paper also aims to clear the merits and demerits of the different biometric recognition systems.
