Abstract

Automated type-curve matching can be used to analyze pump test data from semi-confined (leaky) aquifers. The computer algorithm evaluates aquifer and aquitard transmissivity, storage coefficient, and leakage coefficient, where the leakage is assumed to occur vertically from the confining semipervious layer (aquitard). Initial estimates for the type-curve matching algorithm are automatically obtained from the data. The method is completely automated, requiring only the pump test data; it converges rapidly, and identifies and ignores spurious data in the analysis.
