Abstract

With the retinal image of a 35-minute circular target stabilized against horizontal eye movements, horizontal autokinesis is markedly reduced. It is suggested that this result is consistent with an eye movement interpretation of autokinetic movement, and further, that the response patterns reported here are similar to those that might be expected from recent work describing cortical single unit movement detectors.
