Auto - Moving Wheelchair with Obstacle Detection and Health Monitoring System

Abstract

People suffering from severe infirmities mostly rely on power wheelchairs to move around. It becomes more important to monitor our loved ones for their health and safety especially when they grow old. Due to the weak joints, aged people have difficulties in walking and there is a great risk of falling. For a person who is weak, moving in a power wheelchair can be risky, for both the person and the surrounding environment. So, an Auto moving wheelchair with fall detection and health monitoring system has been introduced in this paper. This reduces the effort to move the wheels for the wheelchair, by using a mobile application. In addition, it also provides a possibility for those who are physically or visually disabled to move from one location to other. Furthermore, the wheelchair has an obstacle recognition system that lowers the possibility of a collision while in motion. Moreover, it has a fall detection system that monitors the patient's mobility with an accelerometer sensor and notifies anyone in the immediate area if a fall is detected. This product is very helpful when travelling with elders from one location to another, and can be utilised in nursing homes as well.
