Abstract

We appreciate the comments on our article and are happy to provide the following responses. It is possible to expand only the anterior screw because of the round articulation between the screw and the lateral bars, which is similar to the fan-shaped expander. Midpalatal suture split is not critical in the mixed dentition stage. For this reason, chronological age was the inclusion criterion. If the study was conducted in the permanent dentition stage, different skeletal maturational phases would indeed have influenced the orthopedic and/or orthodontic outcomes of rapid maxillary expansion. We blinded the preexpansion and postexpansion occlusal radiographs by cropping them so that the type of appliance was not visible (see Fig 2). We should have clarified that in the text. Regarding our ability to measure the inclination of the crowns before and after expansion accurately without incorporation of error, such measurements on dental models adequate with a level of reproducibility are possible, as revealed in a recent study.1Massaro C. Lauris J.R.P. et al.Comparison of linear and angular changes assessed in digital dental models and cone-beam computed tomography.Orthod Craniofac Res. 2020; 23: 118-128Crossref Scopus (5) Google Scholar In addition, we performed an error study, and crown inclination demonstrated acceptable intraexaminer reliability when the intraclass correlation coefficient ranged from 0.997 to 0.998. We hope we have satisfactorily addressed all the deficient aspects pointed out by Dr Goje. They have clearly addressed the concept of differential expansion with an innovative screw when more expansion is required in the anterior region than in the posterior region. Full-Text PDF
