Abstract

We appreciate Dr. Stevenson’s feedback on the April For the Patient page. We acknowledge that numbness and loss of taste sensation are possible symptoms that merit further discussion. Unfortunately, For the Patient is limited to 1 page, and at times it is not possible to provide comprehensive lists. With that in mind, the pages themselves are designed to prompt discussion between the dental professionals and patients, and it is hoped that further information can be provided during those discussions. JADA. 2019;151[4]:310) mentions several symptoms of possible mouth or throat cancer. A category that was not included is loss of sensory function. Numbness or loss of taste sensation may occur when tumors impinge sensory nerve fibers and should be viewed with suspicion. Full-Text PDF
