Abstract
I read with great interest the letter to the editor by Kethan et al. I am not surprised to find out that polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is a relatively common variant of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in India given that there is a predilection of PCV for pigmented races. The data of Kethan et al are similar to what recently reported in the Chinese population.2 Wen et al in a retrospective analysis of 166 consecutive patients 50 years or older with diagnosis of exudative AMD, found that 37 patients (22.3%) initially suspected of having exudative AMD were ultimately diagnosed as having PCV.
