Abstract
We appreciate the thoughtful commentary regarding our study and agree that there is a need for clearer guidelines on peri-operative antibiotic and urine culture utilization in pediatric urology. Due to the absence of clear guidelines, there is considerable variation in utilization of prophylactic antibiotics surrounding urologic procedures, and some studies suggest minimal benefit of antibiotic prophylaxis.1-3 These practice pattern differences are also present amongst the ten pediatric urologists at our institution.
